Conceived by a band of brilliant and visionary men, the United States Constitution is grounded in the principle that government exists to protect and ensure individual liberty.

In the text of the Second Amendment, the Framers of the Constitution clearly articulated the right of every American citizen to keep and bear arms, declaring this freedom essential to the national defense and the protection of property. For over 200 years, Americans have turned to the Constitution in defense of this basic right, invoking the wise words of its legendary authors.

This coin celebrates the freedom guaranteed by America’s founding document. The obverse contains a stylized rendering of the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution and features a Colonial era musket. The reverse contains the text of the Second Amendment and includes a quote from Thomas Jefferson that reads: “No Free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.”
