The Michigan Medal of Valor is officially hallmarked by the U.S. Institute of Heraldry. This decoration is awarded to recognize a conspicuous act of courage, gallantry, or valor by any member of the organized militia. The act may have been performed in any capacity, but must have been one displaying personal bravery or self-sacrifice above and beyond the call of duty, so conspicuous as to clearly distinguished the individual for gallantry and intrepidity above comrades, and must have involved personal risk of life or performance of more than ordinarily hazardous service. On August 2nd, 1970 statutory authorization for this award was provided in SB 1520, Act 164. This ribbon comes in a solid gray color and is ready to be worn on uniforms. Michigan Medal of Valor Ribbons are made with the highest government standards and are US Military approved. All ribbons of the US Military are made in the USA by US Veterans. Ribbons are unmounted and do not come with a holding bar. To purchase this ribbon for yourself or a family member's shadow box, or display case, we require a DD-214 or other valid proof that this medal was honorably awarded.
