3" vertical measurement on oval shaped color military spec shoulder Vietnam Patch. A Regular Army unit with Headquarters in South Vietnam and was deactivated after the US withdrawal. After years of support, the United States formerly committed combat troops to the Republic of Vietnam in December of 1961 after South Vietnam declared a state of emergency. As American troop numbers in creased, the need arose for a single, central command and the U.S. Army Vietnam was activated in July of 1965 to fill this need. The colors yellow and red on this Vietnam Patch represent the Republic of Vietnam and the blue in the center represents the United States. The Crusader's sword in the center alludes to the military nature of the Headquarters.
