Back in 2010, my buddies and I were coming back from a scuba run in South Carolina. About 15 minutes from the house, we came across a one car wreck that blocked the road. One guy was badly hurt and the other guy was throwing open beer containers in the bushes. The car was upside down an must have happened just minutes before we got there. I was in shock, but we were yelling at the guy to help out his buddy. The guy eventually got picked up by another car leaving his buddy to bleed. The injured guy was life flighted out and of course we reported everything we saw. Although a weird situation, I always felt that I would be the guy running toward danger – running to help my fellow man. I didn’t have latex gloves or even a band aid to speak of and definitely not the knowledge or even the courage to help out. It kind of haunts me.
But what keeps the worry away is that I will never let that happen again or happen to my family. Having the tools to be able to act while out camping, at home or on our frequent road trips keeps me in good spirits. I know I will be able to rely on my tactical trauma kit to do the work and I have also trained my family to always pack it and know what is in it for myself and their need if the time arises. I know it’s there and I don’t have to think about it. Yeah, I hope I can just keep robbing it of the tweezers for splinters, small bandages and antiseptic for our most recent activities, but it’s on standby when crap hits the fan. I mean, how many times in your life have you needed an ice pack? – This thing has 2 ready to go. – no running for a pack of frozen peas. Heck, our CEO took our sample pack and has used it already to save the babysitters toe from infection when she cracked it open on the deck. (all babysitters are now required to wear steel toe boots)
