Navy Pistol Marksman Ribbon
Navy Pistol Marksmanship Ribbon
Service: Navy
Instituted: 1969
Criteria: Attainment of the minimum qualifying scores during prescribed shooting exercises.
Devices: Bronze Letter “S”, Silver Letter “E”
The Navy Pistol Marksmanship Ribbon was established by the Secretary of the Navy on October 14, 1969 to extend the range of marksmanship awards below the Expert level. To create this “ribbon-only” award, the ribbon of the Navy Expert Pistol Shot Medal was retained and redesignated as the Navy Pistol Marksmanship Ribbon with devices to denote the various levels. To indicate the Marksman level, the ribbon is unadorned while the Sharpshooter level uses a bronze letter “S”. To reward the attainment of the Expert level, the medal is retained unadorned but a silver letter “E,” is placed on the ribbon bar. The ribbon is navy blue with two thin stripes of light green. Attachment letters are affixed to the center of the ribbon. Earlier regulations provided for a bronze letter “E” to denote to first qualification at the Expert level and the silver “E” to indicate the “final” achievement of Expert status but this was soon discontinued in favor of the silver “E”.
Add bronze S to denote sharpshooter and add Silver E to denote expert.
