Navy Arctic Service Ribbon Service: Navy, Marine Corps Instituted: 1986 Devices: None The Navy Arctic Service Ribbon was established by the Secretary of the Navy on May 8, 1986 and authorized for wear on June 3, 1987. The ribbon is awarded to members of the Naval Service who participate in operations in support of the Arctic Warfare Program. To be eligible, the individual must have served 28 days north of, or within 50 miles of the Marginal Ice Zone (MIZ). The MIZ is defined as an area consisting of more than 10% ice concentration. The ribbon is medium blue with a narrow center stripe of navy blue flanked on either side by three thin stripes of gradually lighter shades of blue, a narrow stripe of white, followed again by two thin stripes of gradually darker shades of blue. There are no provisions for additional awards. The Navy Arctic Service Ribbon is worn after the Navy Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and before the Naval Reserve Sea Service Ribbon.
