Hull Maintenance Technician Rating 1st Class is an official issue of the United States Navy. Hull Maintenance Technicians do the metal work necessary to keep all types of shipboard structures and surfaces in good condition. The Navy Rate you receive will be Petty Officer 1st Class and you will need to cut the rank to make 2nd or 3rd class. Established in 1972 and displays a crossed fire axe and maul, handles down; fire axe blade to front, on a carpenter’s square that points down. Has a red on blue finish which indicates less than 12 years of service being regulation size and is uniform ready.
