Devices: Silver Letter “O”, Gold, Silver Star The Coast Guard Unit Commendation was authorized by the Coast Guard Commandant effective January 1, 1963 for award to any unit which has distinguished itself by valorous or extremely meritorious service not involving combat but in support of Coast Guard operations, which renders the unit outstanding compared to other units performing similar service.
