Naval Aviator Badge Design: A gold metal winged pin with a fouled anchor behind a shield in the center.
The Naval Aviator insignia is a warfare qualification of the United States military that is awarded to those aviators of the United States Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard who have qualified as Naval Aviators upon successful completion of flight school. The decoration is similar in design to the Naval Flight Officer Badge, consisting of a single fouled anchor, surmounted by a shield, centered on a pair of golden wings.
The Naval Aviator Badge is identical for all three branches and is awarded in a single degree. To qualify for the Naval Aviator Badge, a service member must have completed Primary and Advanced Flight Training and be designated a qualified pilot of a military aircraft.
Naval Aviator is a term strictly used for officers. Until 1981 the Navy and Marine Corp also had enlisted personnel trained as pilots. Such individuals were referred to as Naval Aviation Pilots. Naval Aviation Pilots wore the same insignia as Naval Aviators.
