Air Force Special Duty Ribbon

The official Air Force Special Duty Ribbon—also known since November 2020 as the Developmental Special Duty Ribbon—recognizes Airmen and Guardians who are awarded a qualifying Special Duty Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC) or identifier and successfully complete a special duty assignment.

🎖️ Award Criteria

This ribbon was officially authorized on September 4, 2014, by the Secretary of the Air Force. It applies only to duty performed on or after that date—awards are not retroactive prior to establishment Medals of America+4Air Force Personnel Center+4militaryribbons.info+4.

To qualify, service members must:

  • Be assigned to a designated special duty AFSC or identifier

  • Successfully complete the full assignment (consecutively-counted tours qualify)

  • Complete service on or after 4 September 2014

Approved special duty assignments include (but are not limited to):

  • Prefix T‑AFSC: Training Instructors (officer and enlisted)

  • 80C0: Commander, Cadet Squadron, USAFA

  • 81C0, 81T0: OTS Training Commander or Instructor

  • 82A0: Academic Program Manager

  • 8A100: Career Assistance Advisor

  • 8B000 / 8B100 / 8B200: MTI, MTL, USAFA Military Training

  • 8C000: Airman & Family Readiness Center NCO

  • 8F000: First Sergeant

  • 85G / 8G000: Honor Guard

  • 83R / 8R000: Recruiter

  • 8H000: Dorm Leader

  • 8T000: PME Instructor

For each additional qualifying assignment, service members may receive oak leaf clusters to display on the ribbon.
