Approved by the Army Chief of Staff on 18 January 1978, the Air Assault Badge is awarded by commanders to individuals who complete an air assault training course in accordance with U.S. Army Training and Doctrine command's Standardized Air Assault Core Program and Instruction. The badge has a silver oxide finish, displaying a helicopter superimposed on a pair of upward curving wings to represent the individual’s high level of skill and qualification in assault landings with an Army helicopter. The Army Air Assault Badge is also available in additional finishes including mirror and black finishes.
