The Air Force Air & Space Campaign Medal (ASCM) was authorized by the Secretary of the Air Force on April 24, 2002 to recognize personnel who are not eligible for other DOD campaign medals but provide direct support of combat operations at home stations or from outside the geographical area of combat.
To qualify for the award, Air Force personnel must be assigned or attached to a unit engaged in the operation and have provided 30 consecutive or 60 nonconsecutive days of direct support as stated above. No individual may be eligible for both the ASCM and a DOD campaign/service medal awarded during a single tour in the same operation. Subsequent support service in separate, approved operations are denoted by bronze and silver service stars on the ribbon.
