USAF Communications Command Patch
2" by 3" military specification color shield shaped shoulder patch. Air Force Communications Command personnel can be found operating at more than 470 locations worldwide. They are responsible for everything to do with communications in its widest sense.
AFCC personnel handle and maintain voice and data communications, together with data processing, air traffic control and air traffic services.
Each of the major commands is supported by a specific Communications Division. Strategic Communications Division at Offutt AFB, NE handles SAC requirements. Pacific Communications is handled from Hickam AFB, HI. Europe is controlled from the European Communications at Kapaun Annex, in West Germany.
There are three major communication nets available between bases: the Automatic Voice Network (AUTOVON), the Automatic Secure Voice Communications Network (AUTOSEVOCOM), and the Automatic Digital Network (AUTODIN). As the demand for swift, secure communications grows, AFCC has the capability to develop and install new equipment as the need arises. AFCC personnel operate at almost every Air Force location, and if a commander wants a communications net set up on a bare field site in support of an exercise then AFCC technicians will move swiftly into operation.
The AFCC provides all Air Force air-traffic controllers and runs the second largest air-traffic control in the world after the Soviet Union. It operates six facility-checking aircraft which test all aspects of air-traffic safety wherever Air Force aircraft operate.
